Proj Overview

PROJECT OVERVIEW

FedEx officials needed to construct a new 200,000-square-foot distribution center that could handle substantial traffic and provide office space. In all, the design created 58 loading docks for semi-trailers on the west side and seven drive-in overhead doors for delivery vans on the east side. It also includes 8,626 square feet of office space.

PRECAST SOLUTION

Precast concrete architectural panels were specified to clad the building. “One of the important things with a building of that size is being able to turn it over to the client quickly,” notes Jeremy Olivotti, vice president of preconstruction at Mid-States Concrete Industries.

The 174 pieces of precast concrete wall panel were erected in only two weeks. The site was accessible, with no obstacles or challenges to delivering or erecting the components, he notes. “Being able to get product on-site and erected quickly allowed them to get other trades onto site to do interior work and finishes and stay on schedule,” Olivotti says.

Precast provides attractive finish options for large warehouse projects and allows large openings for trailer or van access to be cut into the panels without reducing their structural integrity. The panels were cast with a gray form finish.
