Project Overview
The Perot Museum of Nature & Science cultivates a distinct identity that engages and invigorates visitors, even before they enter the building. The architect used the aesthetic versatility of precast concrete to create the free-flowing exterior which mirrors the stratified surfaces of the Earth.
This world-class facility inspires awareness of science and technology through an immersive and interactive environment that actively engages visitors. By integrating architecture, nature, engineering, and technology, the building demonstrates scientific principles and stimulates curiosity in our natural surroundings.
Precast Solution
The precast façade minimizes the use of material through a systematized, standard panel that maximizes modularity, interchangeability, and the appearance of a complex, dynamic façade. The panels had combinations of radius, canted, angles, projections and other detailed forms and shapes.
A lightweight gray concrete mix, without pigment or white cement was selected for the façade, knowing there would be natural mottling to each panel.
The aesthetic versatility of precast concrete facilitated the Perot Museum to meet its stringent aesthetic finish. |
