Project Overview
Officials at High Concrete Group didn’t have to look far to decide what material would provide the best structural framing for its new Maintenance Building. The building features a total-precast concrete design.
The $4.1-million project also incorporated a variety of sustainable-design features, aided by the precast concrete, that allowed the facility to achieve a LEED Silver rating.
Precast Solution
The design-build team held a Green Design Charette to discuss project goals, ideas, building systems, local availability of materials, site characteristics, grading, storm water, macro and micro climate including sun and wind considerations, and possible code issues.
The precast concrete elements featured carbon-fiber reinforcing, which increased their durability and thermal efficiency while reducing or eliminating corrosion and reducing weight.
The thermally efficient sandwich wall panels include insulating form that provides R-value of 25. They are reinforced with carbon-fiber shear trusses that make them structurally composite for load bearing. |
