Project Overview
This state office building, located just north of the state capital, is a shining example of the extent to which total precast solutions are able to bring cost efficiency to a project and deliver extraordinary results for the whole design team as well as the owner and end users.
Precast Solution
The total precast approach applies high-quality architectural finishes to exterior exposed precast structural frames. This cost-effective approach eliminated the need for fireproofing and a secondary facade system; sped up the construction schedule; and, through the additional application of the structurally resilient precast hybrid moment frame, helped deliver the wide-open and well-lit interior spaces that are the hallmarks of this showcase project.
The use of the precast system allowed for the design of the cavernous four-story central space known as the Canyon, which created open unobstructed views throughout the facility, encouraging visible access to departments that would have otherwise been closed off by walls. The large open space allows for light and air to filter throughout the facility, while the precast system’s high thermal mass results in less cooling in the summer and less heating in the winter. |
