Project Overview
Adjacent to the new Yankee stadium, this five-tier, 660-space precast garage serves as the fourth façade of the stadium. With white precast concrete and stainless steel mesh panels, the garage fits the stadium’s neo-traditional design.
Precast Solution
To protect the adjacent stadium from explosive devices, the NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force required that the garage include a hardened 12-in.-thick, 50-ft-tall reinforced structural concrete wall on the south façade. The wall was designed using a single-degree-of-freedom dynamic loading model to simulate the blast loading. Due to an adjoining stand of trees that could not be removed and setback requirements from a nearby elevated rail line, the garage has a very narrow footprint and utilizes a scissor-ramp configuration for vertical circulation and one-way vehicle flow with angle-in parking. Open floor plates provide drivers with unobstructed views. The project utilizes a typical 36-ft structural grid and 186,000 ft2 of precast double tees. |
