Project Overview
This deck arch bridge carries highway traffic over a creek and provides pedestrian passage between the ocean and a popular state park. Construction of the bridge required no falsework in the creek; precast concrete was the obvious solution. The combination of stainless steel and high-performance concrete was required in the superstructure elements, and the application of precast in plant conditions provided excellent quality.
The bridge foundation and arch ribs were designed for tsunami waves and debris loading. The 80-ton precast arch rib segments, which include high-performance concrete, eliminated complicated forming.
Precast Solution
The composite superstructure included precast/prestressed voided slabs that were fabricated with stainless-steel reinforcement and high-performance concrete. Precast fascia panels were erected on the exterior face to hide utilities, which eliminated complicated deck forming.
