Project Overview
The 148-ft-long bridge was designed to incorporate many of the architectural features of a nearby, historic covered bridge that carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic, as well as a memorial plaque. Completion took less than three months. Speed was important since the highway was completely closed at the bridge site during the entire construction period. Traffic was detoured using county roads and city streets.
Precast Solution
Use of 27M prestressed concrete girders allowed the profile of the roadway for this two-span bridge replacement to remain unchanged, saving cost for the project. The existing bridge and overflow structures did not prevent the river from flooding the highway during major storms. |
