Project Overview
Phase one of the Tucker High School project involved demolition of an existing gymnasium, rerouting of utilities, and the construction of two total-precast-concrete classroom buildings to house classrooms, labs, media center, and administration. When phase one was completed, students were moved into the new classrooms. The old classrooms were then torn down. Phase two of the construction project completed the campus with technology classroom labs, auditorium, gymnasium, kitchen, athletic fields, and landscaped courtyards.
Precast Solution
Use of a total precast installation process at this high school project enabled the construction team to erect portions of the building within two feet of the existing—and still occupied—campus buildings. The total-precast concrete system allowed a crane to operate from within the footprint of the new classroom structures and back out onto public streets. Buildings consist of load-bearing exterior precast walls with precast columns and beams for the interior framing. Precast spandrels, architectural panels, double tees, stairs, and elevator boxes are also utilized. |
